Commissioned by BBC Scotland and presented by archaeologist Neil Oliver, A History of Scotland is a thought provoking series that brings a fresh perspective to the big questions posed by Scotlands turbulent past. It challenges many of the perceived notions of Scottish history and broadens the viewers perception of what makes Britain. The series will tell gripping tales of battles and allegiances, political intrigue and religious conflict, using CGI to bring this to life and extraordinary aerial shots, showing the superb locations and variety of Scotlands landscape. The first 5 episodes covered Scotland since early times, taking in references to the Scots and Picts, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. The final five parts will take the story of Scotland on from the dominance of religion in the mid 1660s, the Covenantors, the Darien Disaster, the 1707 Union, Jacobitism, the Enlightenment, on to the 19th century and the changing urban and rural landscape, economic decline in 20th century and also devolution and the modern day.
